Turns out, it depends on what state you live in. Via Grist, news today of a ranking of all 50 states in terms of their energy-efficiency, put out by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. Topping the list: California (way to go, Governator), Vermont and Connecticut, who all tied for first place.As a born and bred New Yorker, I was pleased (and, frankly, shocked) to see that we come in at No. 7 on the list. Maybe we don't need those hybrid taxis after all.
